Paul Phillips Eye & Surgery Center is a physician-owned multi-specialty ophthalmic practice that offers comprehensive eyecare services in surgical and medical retina, cataract and refractive surgery, uveitis, glaucoma, pediatrics, oculoplastic, contact lens fitting and supply, and full service optical. The main location is Flemington, NJ with two satellite offices in Bridgewater and Clinton, NJ.
Summary
The surgical coordinator is responsible for the scheduling and coordination of cataract surgery and LASIK for our surgeons. The individual will schedule surgical cases, while also serving as a point of contact for patients, surgeons and staff during and after procedures. Responsible for answering and triaging telephone calls, collecting and communicating patient information to the appropriate individuals, and completing administrative tasks to ensure efficient workflow and patient care. Must demonstrate good time management skills and ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Perform preparation of patient charts for pre-op measurement visits, ensure accuracy of paperwork, and order pre-op diagnostic testing.
- Confirm and coordinate the scheduled surgeries by uploading them into the surgical center system, and our office EHR system (NextGen).
- Upload demographic and surgical information into surgery center electronic systems prior to surgery date.
- Perform surgical counseling with patients to review pre-operative instructions, confirm patient understanding of surgery to be performed, discuss intraocular lens options, and obtain signatures on consent forms.
- Work in conjunction with clinical staff and surgeons to ensure all pre-operative measurements and paperwork are completed accurately and timely.
- Demonstrate willingness to assist co-workers during periods of heightened patient activity. This may include performing pre-operative testing for surgical patients.
- Travel to satellite offices (Clinton and Bridgewater) as needed to perform surgical counseling and assist in surgical scheduling.
- Ensure proper billing procedure and diagnostic codes for surgical cases and provide documentation to the billing coordinator.
- Other job responsibilities as assigned.

Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ophthalmology experienced preferred, but not required
- Medical office experience required
