Ophthalmic Medical Assistant

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Ophthalmic Medical Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care within a clinical setting. This position requires a strong commitment to patient well-being, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals. The Retina Medical Assistant will assist in various medical procedures, support patient needs, and ensure smooth operations within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and assists with intravitreal injections and other in-office procedures in a sterile surgical environment.
  • Conducts diagnostic tests and procedures such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus photography, fluorescein angiography.
  • Maintains daily clinical workflow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provides patient education on eye health, disease prevention, and post-treatment care.
  • Maintains and calibrates ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Administers eye medications under the ophthalmologist’s supervision.
  • Cleans, stocks, and prepares rooms before each patient’s examination or treatment.
  • Maintains patient records and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong ability to work quickly with high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment; training will be provided
  • Ability to learn in-office surgical procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to organization and precision
  • Approaches patient care with a sense of urgency and high professional standard

Nice to Have, But not Required:

  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Experience in a medical office setting

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Training in diagnostic and treatment procedures will be provided

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Full-time, non-exempt. Shift details for this role requires the individual to be available for an 8-hour shift ranging between 8:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday with the possibility of a late shift based on a rotating schedule. The individual must be able to commute to and work from Flemington, NJ; Bridgewater, NJ and Clinton, NJ.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
